As this is the first post on our brand new weblog, I thought I ought to begin with a brief introduction to who we are and what we do.
CAARE (The Council for the Advancement of Arts, Recreation and Education) was founded in 1996 by the Australian orchestral conductor Denis Vaughan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denis_Vaughan) with the aim of giving all young people in Britain access to top quality sport and culture. Denis was instrumental in bringing the National Lottery to Britain, but was dismayed to see that it was not having the effect he had hoped for.
For over ten years, CAARE has campaigned for the importance of sport and the arts to be fully recognised and bringing to public attention the vast sums of unspent money held by the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
At the moment we have eight members of staff working in a small office in Covent Garden. The CAARE website below gives email addresses for anyone you need to contact, but hopefully I’ll get people to introduce themselves over the coming weeks.
The ‘blog will be updated regularly with CAARE’s reaction to important news stories, but until then, I’ll leave you with our website to explore…
Best,
Duncan (Press Officer)
