It’s excellent to see that there are plans to have cycles for hire throughout London. Regardless of the environmental benefits, it is brilliant to see such a strong commitment to cycling from both main mayoral candidates.
According to the latest Taking Part survey from Sport England, 16% of adults had cycled in the past year, the third most popular activity. There is clearly a potential for cycling to grow, if only we can make it accessible and this is an excellent first step.
Yet there is clearly still a long way to go. Only 2% of British children cycle to school, despite the fact that 80% own a bike. It is these sorts of statistics that we will have to work on if we want to see physical activity as a key part of the national ethos.

Well done to Ken, not to mention he will be creating a 25m superhighway for us cyclists
