Today the University of Cambridge released a report titled “Primary Review”. You can see a copy of it if you follow the link http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/news/dp/2007101203
The report concluded that too much pressure is placed on primary school children which is leading to stress and deep anxiety in today’s world.
CAARE are meeting Sir Jim Rose in March to discuss the primary curriculum. Sir Jim has recently bee commissioned by the DCSF to conduct an independent report into primary education as he has been a champion of this sector for well over a decade. CAARE will be pushing for a more balanced education in primary schools. Recent reports have demonstrated high correlation between children being artistically/ physically active and educational attainment and children’s happiness and well being, this is a direction CAARE would like more state schools to adopt.
It is also important to look at the training primary teachers receive. Today as many as 40% of newly qualified primary school teachers have received 6 hours or less physical education training, giving PE another set back in primary schools.
CAARE would like to see the quality of PE in primary schools increased by making the subject a core aspect of all primary teachers training, CAARE recommends 50 hours minimum training for all future primary school teachers.
As always we are keen to hear what you think, public support really does help our campaigns on issues like this, so please leave your views.
Thanks
Team CAARE
